LIHI is partnering with the City of Tacoma and First Christian Church of Tacoma to open the Village at 6th & Orchard for people experiencing homelessness in the Tacoma area. Each tiny house is 8 feet by 12 feet, is insulated, furnished, and has heat, electricity, windows, and a locking door. In addition to 40 tiny houses for residents, the village will include a community kitchen, hygiene facilities, laundry, case management office, a fence around the site, and a security pavilion at the entrance.

LIHI will provide staff to be on-site 24/7. The First Christian Church of Tacoma is hosting the village on its property under a lease with the City of Tacoma. The city is contracting with LIHI to set up and provide staffing and services to the village. The village is funded by the city as emergency shelter through June 2023.

“We are excited to be a part of this important outreach to our unhoused neighbors and are so grateful for our partners, LIHI and the City of Tacoma and the City Council for their commitment to addressing this huge hurt in our community.” – First Christian Church of Tacoma Senior Pastor Barbara Blaisdell

“This is our third tiny house village in Tacoma. We thank the hundreds of donors and volunteers who helped build the tiny houses. With the pandemic—and the cold and rain—too many families and individuals are vulnerable living outdoors or in their cars. This new village will shelter 60 people and our dedicated case managers will work with them to make a successful transition to permanent housing.” – LIHI Executive Director Sharon Lee
