Camp Second Chance

REPORTS TO:            Special Projects Manager

HOURS:                 Part-time – 20 hours a week, Tuesday – Saturday.  May include some evening and weekends.

PAY RANGE:           $13.34 to $16.93 per hour DOE

BENEFITS:             Disability insurance, retirement, vacation & sick leave.  May enroll for Medical/Dental/Vision via premium-share.

The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) develops and manages housing for people who are low-income and/or homeless, provides technical assistance to communities and other non-profits, and advocates for housing for all. LIHI provides over 1800 affordable housing units in the Puget Sound region.  LIHI also provides services through our Supportive Services program and by partnering with area human service provides to further meet the needs of our residents.  LIHI is managing this authorized encampment to provide a safe place and community for those experiencing homelessness, mental illness, chemical dependency, and other barriers. Camp Second Chance is located in S. Seattle.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform janitorial and grounds maintenance, garbage removal and litter patrol.
  2. Respond to emergencies and disputes on site, being on-call with pager.
  3. Respond to residents’ and community concerns and questions regarding the site.
  4. Organize and accept donations from the public.
  5. Schedule residents for volunteer work hours regularly.
  6. Inspect the site’s interior and exterior regularly.
  7. Order supplies and arrange services from vendors as needed.
  8. Provide orientation and information to participants on camp operations, safety, and code of conduct. Organize all camp meetings.
  9. Communicate with multiple staff and organizations.
  10. Driving in between sites and community meetings.
  11. Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. One year maintenance experience.
  2. Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  3. Experience working with low-income and homeless population.
  4. Good communication skills.
  5. Willing to make a Twelve-month commitment.
  6. Experience with establishing professional boundaries.
  7. Must have a driver’s license and insurance.
  8. Must have a reliable vehicle.
  9. Must pass criminal background checks and pass drug screening test.

 

This is a unionized position, represented by Local 8 of the Office of Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU).
