Pay Range: $16.15 – 19.38 per hour
The Low Income Housing Institute is a non-profit housing development organization which provides technical assistance, housing development, finance, and property management services to increase the supply of low-income housing and to work for housing justice. The Housing Assistant will work in north Seattle serving 50 units of low income individuals and families.
This is a temporary part-time position. Twenty hours per week for six weeks. This position will assist staff with summer camp projects and field trips for resident children at Meadowbrook View. Assistance includes set up/clean up of meals and classes, receiving food deliveries, picking up trash around property, attending field trips, and posting flyers.
The Housing Assistant will carry out such duties as needed and directed by the Housing Program Coordinator including collecting rents and recording financial information into property management software; working with applicants and residents to complete eligibility paperwork; coordinating with utility and repair vendors; and other duties. This is a non-exempt position.
- Assist staff with administrative and program work related to the operating of the property including rent collection, recording financial information, and make daily deposits.
- Assist with writing and word-processing including preparation of spreadsheets, grants, funding applications, correspondence and reports as relate to the housing programs.
- Answer questions, phone inquiries and screen calls for staff as needed.
- Type, file, photocopy, process transmittals/mailings and other office duties.
- Coordinate with vendors to do repairs; forward maintenance request forms to LIHI’s maintenance department; track maintenance work and needs.
- Fill in for LIHI’s Office Assistant or Administrative Assistant as requested.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible related work experience in clerical/administrative work, human services, housing or grantwriting. Demonstrated ability to provide high quality staff support. A college degree may substitute for a portion of the work experience.
- Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to word without direct supervision.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and work processing and spreadsheet software programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people with sensitivity to cultural and class issues, and a demonstrated commitment to social justice and/or low income housing.
- Must pass criminal background checks and drug screen test.
