Compensation:          $14.00 – 16.69 per hour, DOE.

The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) develops and manages housing for people who are low-income and/or homeless, provides technical assistance to communities and other non-profits, and advocates for housing for all. LIHI provides over 1600 affordable housing units in the Puget Sound region.  LIHI also provides services through our Supportive Services program and by partnering with area human service providers to further meet the needs of our residents.


This position is for a 234-unit building for homeless and low-income families and individuals, located in downtown Seattle. The Front Desk/Resident Assistant duties are primarily front desk, office support, customer service and security duties for a building with 24/7 staff.



  1. Staff front desk/lobby. Monitor building access. Enable access to residents or legitimate visitors.  Deny access as needed.
  2. Operate all functions in the front desk/lobby area, including checking visitors in and out, answering telephones, and checking in/out of supplies.
  3. Sort and distribute mail, packages, business messages, etc.
  4. Interact positively with Frye tenants and visitors.
  5. Enforce house rules and guest policies.
  6. Respond to applicants and residents questions and concerns.
  7. Implement fire/emergency procedures as needed.
  8. Respond as needed to medical emergencies or other urgent situations. Initiate action as required, including contact with emergency response systems and management personnel.
  9. Work cooperatively with case managers, office and maintenance staff, and visiting providers; refer residents to case managers and other staff as appropriate.
  10. Monitor resident disputes, intervene to de-escalate and redirect residents when necessary.
  11. Word Processing/Data entry – submit work orders, track guest logs.
  12. Maintain shift log and other documentation related to resident activity in accordance with applicable agency policies and Federal HIPPAA confidentiality guidelines.
  13. Light janitorial as needed.
  14. Other duties as assigned.



  1. College level course work in human services, social work or work experience in a related field.
  2. Experience working with homeless and low-income people.
  3. Experience working with special needs populations such as persons with physical or mental handicaps, and persons with substance abuse issues.
  4. Demonstrated ability to handle conflicts and disputes.
  5. Ability to write reports, take messages and answer phones.
  6. Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  7. Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  8. Basic computer skills. Ability to enter and retrieve data.
  9. Experience with security in multi-family dwellings.
  10. Must pass criminal background checks and drug screening test.
