Hours: Part-time, 19 - 20 hours a week

Compensation: $10.80 – 14.40 per hour, DOE.  

Benefits: Vacation, Sick Leave, Medical, Dental, Life/Disability, Retirement. For part-time staff, eligibility for some benefits depend on the number of hours worked and may be pro-rated.

The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) develops and manages housing for people who are low-income and/or homeless, provides technical assistance to communities and other non-profits, and advocates for housing for all. LIHI provides over 1500 affordable housing units in the Puget Sound region. LIHI also provides services to residents through community building and mutual housing models, through our Supportive Services department and by partnering with area human service providers to further meet the needs of our residents. This position is located in south Seattle.

The On-Site staff’s duties are primarily maintenance, janitorial, and security.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform and schedule routine maintenance and janitorial or common areas, grounds maintenance, garbage removal and weeding, replacing locks and light bulbs, performing minor carpentry and painting.
  2. Respond to emergencies on site, being on-call with pager and performing nightly grounds checks.
  3. Respond to residents' concerns and questions regarding the building.
  4. Inspect the building’s interior and exterior regularly. Inspect units annually; at time of turnover or as directed.
  5. Inventory – maintain basic supplies.
  6. Prepare vacant units including light maintenance, cleaning, and coordinating vendors for re-rental in a timely manner.
  7. Reside at the site in a designated apartment and pay rent.

Qualifications:

  1. One year building maintenance experience.
  2. Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  3. Experience working with low-income people.
  4. Good communication skills.
  5. Willing to make a one-year commitment.

This is a unionized position, represented by Local 8 of the Office of Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU).
